DEVIL (September, 2010 - 5/5 stars)

"it has always been you"
finally! a story written by m night shyamalan but not screenplayed nor directed. the end result? - fantastic. i am not a fan of MNS. i am not fan of movies of gives a lot of hype during ...advertising period, presents the story that it is something big, creates an excitement as you proceed to the climax and then... flop!
but this time it's different. the story is engaging. although me and my friend was able to decipher the killer halfway the movie, we still enjoyed discussing the hypothesis used after. a true measure that the movie is engaging.
it is classified as horror but is recommended to the religious and for those who don't watch this genre.

PHOBIA 2 (September, 2010 - 5/5 stars)

it is where our own local movie version is Cinco was based. Phobia 2 is a 5-horror shortfilm compilation directed by 5 directors. among... the 5 films :
("novice", "ward", "backpackers", "salvaged") the best one is "in the end". the twists and turns made us laugh and prompting us to beg more. yup, we did laughed hard on a horror film so funny. watch it!

MULI (September, 2010 - 6/5 stars)

"walang panahon ang asawa mo sa iyo, tapos pupunta ka sa akin. bakit, ano ba ako sa iyo?
i would say this is a runaway winner. the perspective is excellent - intertwining a modern-day story into a periodic setting. the choice of talents (sid lucero, cogie domingo along with the supporting casts including "bobet", et al) were perfect. the minor details including the tv set, the wall mirrors used, the steel sala set, were all contributory to the fact that the director really has an eye for intricacies not to discount the perfume bottles (issey miyaki) turned backwards to make the scenes truly realistic.
yes, there were gay love scenes (you may call it a footprint for all the pinoy indie films), but more importantly is how tasteful they shot it to look more like "love scene" than plain calling it "plain sex".
actually, i'll give it a 6-stars if only the ratings allow.

AFTER.LIFE (September, 2010 - 3.5/5 stars)

"you people are the same...you are already dead and you are still in denial"
this movie is disturbing. if you want to feel good after watching a movie, then this is not an option.

the pace of the story is slow leading to an ending so unhappy you feel that after all it is better to die. good or bad you are, the ending is always the same. badder people will take care of you in ways more horrific than you think. it leaves a bad taste in the mouth with you saying "it's totally unfair".
liam neeson and cristina ricci's acting were good though.

RESIDENT EVIL 4 : After Life (September, 2010 - 3/5 stars)

"what's the noise?... trouble!"
minus the introduction of new monsters (mutant zombies), the same formula has been used in the last 3 installments. so, if you say the previous ones are okay, then this should sit well with you, especially if you like milla jovovich (like i do). adding, ali larter to the scene makes the a dangerous pair even the dead will rise.

there is an attempt to make it to the international scene. making some dialogues more profound, with the tendency to go "man, your deep" - literally and figuratively...and falls on the same mistake. if they wanted to do this, then they could have contracted more credible actors to pair with anita linda. paolo rivero in fairness, have evolved to play a more serious role. here is where underrated actresses like irma adlawan can come in. the depth of her acting e.g, can make indie films better than commercialized ones.
